Experimenting with Annuals
Late Spring 2002 - Vol. 15 No.2

We continue to have the best selection of annuals you’ll find anywhere. The tried and true as well as new and unusual are all growing in the many packs and pots in our glass greenhouse.

We moderately fertilize our annuals, which allows them even, robust growth. In order to offer small plants that are already in bloom, many growers overfertilize their flowers, forcing them to bloom before they have adequate root growth. They believe that customers won’t buy plants without flowers. We believe you are smarter than that. Our annuals bloom when they are ready. (We even pinch off premature blossoms.)

You may remember the plants from our beautiful annual display gardens that have wrapped around the greenhouse for the last couple of years. If not, we have photos, a catalogue with accurate descriptions, and knowledgeable gardeners who can help you plan your gardens, planters, and window boxes.

Just to keep your garden plot interesting, this year we are offering some new discoveries and some hard-to-find favorites. Some are listed below. For full plant descriptions, please come to the Nursery and get your free 2002 Horsford Catalogue. Read about them under the category Bedding Plants, as you cruise the greenhouse aisles, wagon in tow.
