Some Spring Chores
Spring 2003
- Vol. 16 No.1
-Prune the old canes on your rose bushes.
-Fertilize existing gardens with ProGro or compost and top dress with a thin layer of mulch.
-Certain species of clematis should be pruned before new growth emerges. Included in this group are: ‘Comptess de Bouchard’, Earnest Markham’, ‘Jackmanii’, Sweet Autumn Clematis,’ Bees Jubilee’, ‘Elsa Spath’, ‘Henryi’, ‘Nelly Moser’, ‘Niobe’ and ‘Will Goodwin’. Prune all stems back to a good bud about a foot from the ground.
-Prune your Annabelle Hydrangea as it blooms on new wood.
-This is the time to dig and divide summer and fall blooming perennials.
-Spray Ropel or other bad tasting bunny deterrent on your tulips as they emerge. We have had good success with this approach on our tulip beds at the Nursery.
-Visit Horsford’s Nursery to see what beautiful plant you absolutely must have in your own garden. |
