Shrub Sales Yard Expanded by Charlie Proutt
Spring 2004 - Vol. 17 No.1

In 2003, Horsford’s invited our customers to shop directly in our perennial growing area and removed the rows of display benches outside of the glasshouses. Well, nearly everyone loved the opportunity to browse and choose among the tens of thousands of flowers. As a bonus, the space freed up by the garden center became seasonal displays artfully arranged by Eileen, Leo and Jo-Ann.

For 2004, we’re making a similar change with our flowering shrubs. Customers now have thousands to choose from - directly from our growing area instead of a few of each crammed in the garden center display. The center bays in the garden center will now feature our suggested combinations of Regal Plants.

Which brings me to the re-introduction of the trademarked Regal Plants designation. As described in the plant list section of our website, www.horsfordnursery.com. Regal Plants flower with distinctive form and color. Many demonstrate a particular grace of habit. They often exhibit brilliant fall coloring. Most naturally fight off pests and diseases. Others provide food and habitat to wildlife.

Regal Plants are well nourished, well shaped, and have fully developed root systems.

By selecting the Regal Plants most suited to your garden, your soils, your climate, and your needs, you are guaranteed to be a better gardener.

We hope you approve of the changes. After all, change is how we’ve managed to keep Horsfords young, even after 111 years.

“Regal Plants grow a little taller, bloom a little longer, flower a little more profusely. If you find they serve you better (and we believe you will) much of the credit must be given to the hardiness of the soil and sunshine that our little Vermont valley has put into them”.
