New Repeat Blooming Iris! By Ann Milovsoroff
Summer 2006
- Vol. 19 No.2
Two years ago we planted a few leftover
Iris ‘Immortality’ in a bed
along the west side of the greenhouse.
It is a spectacular iris in the spring. The
enormous flowers with a heavenly sweet
fragrance caught everyone’s attention.
We enjoyed it and forgot about it, surrounding
it with zinnias for the summer.
In September we noticed the same
gorgeous white blossoms poking
through the vibrant red and orange
zinnias. ‘Immortality’ bloomed for 4-6
weeks, with each bloom as big and fragrant
as the spring batch. The following
year brought a repeat double performance.
Too good not to be shared!
This spring we have ‘Immortality’ and
several other varieties of repeat blooming
iris. Plant them in a sunny, welldrained
spot in your garden and enjoy
them. Twice.
Look for Iris ‘Breakers’, medium
blue; ’Champagne Elegance’, near-white
standards and a blend of buff, apricot,
and peach falls; ‘Rock Star’, raspberry
rose standards and pale apricot falls
edged and speckled with raspberry; ‘Summer Olympics’, soft yellow standards
and yellow falls with white centers. |
