Egyptian Onion, Walking Onion

ZONE 4-8, HT 24-30", SUN  A bunching onion used in cooking. Underground bulbs, greens and bulblets on ends of leaves may be used. A prolific grower. The unusual growth habit is what attracts most people. The thick stems bear mini onions on the ends -- they look like something Dr. Seuss would make up.

Strong garlic flavor. Large white flower heads in August and September make a great addition to the garden. Use sparingly when cooking as the flavor lingers for days. Deadhead to avoid mass self-sowing.

HT 24", SUN This herb's intensely aromatic leaves resemble flat parsley. All parts, including the seeds, lend an acquired metallic flavor to foods. Used in many meat dishes, particularly in Middle-eastern and Southeast Asian dishes.
