Festuca 'Elijah's Blue'

A dwarf ornamental grass, possibly the best blue. Evenly rounded tufts of thin blue grass with inflorescences reaching a foot above the foliage. Very interesting in mass as a border. Prefers loose, well drained soil.


Filipendula 'Kahome'

This dwarf meadowsweet has vivid pink flowers in July and August. The maple shaped leaves are attractive all summer as long as it gets plenty of moisture. Avoid hot, dry areas.

Elegant feathery plumes of rosy-pink remind me of Victorian gardens. The lacy foliage mixes well with coarse or broad-leafed plants. Blooms June and July, prefers moist soil.

This meadowsweet or 'Queen of the Prairie' has deep pink plume-like summer flowers. Plant in moist soils. Avoid hot, dry locations.


 
Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun'

Thrives in poor, well-drained, dry soils. Tolerates heat and drought. Bright cherry red flowers are edged with a sunny yellow band. Both the flower and the seed head are excellent cuts. Do not over-fertilize as it weakens the plants.

A most unusual gaillardia, each petal is trumpet shaped in colors of yellow, orange, and burgundy. Will bloom from early summer through fall, especially if deadheaded. Makes wonderful cut and dried flowers, attracts butterflies and not deer. Drought tolerant once established and prefers well drained soil.

This non-stop bloomer actually grows best in poor soils! The large wine-red blooms have a center that emerges a cheery yellow and slowly changes to dark red. Even the seed pods are interesting and unusual. The gray-green foliages shows that it is drought resistant. Also makes a good cut flower.

Pure yellow flowers begin blooming in mid to late summer and will bloom until frost. Flowers and foliage remain fresh and healthy even in summer heat and periods of drought.

A wonderful new variety with apricot-orange flower petals that radiate out from the reddish-brown button-like center and lighten towards the tips. The delicious-looking flowers begin blooming in early summer and just keep going until frost. This drought-tolerant, heat-tolerant plant actually prefers poor soil.

Narrow leaves with delicate sprays of light pink flowers with rose veins seem to flutter around the plant when the wind blows. Heat and drought tolerant. Not reliably winter hardy, but may self seed and blooms from early June until frost.

Beautiful pink and white butterfly-like blossoms are in abundance from June through September. Not reliably winter hardy, but worth taking a chance for the continuous blooms throughout the summer.

Geranium cantabrigiense 'Biokova'

The original plant was found growing in the Biokova mountains in Yugoslavia. I have found it to be beautiful in mass plantings. White flowers are tinged pink and bloom in June and July. Leaves are a soft green turning reddish in fall. Spreads via runners to form a compact groundcover.

Covered in large pink flowers with dark veining, this English import blooms intermittently from May through September. A vigorous and free flowering favorite that prefers well-drained soil.

A lovely cranesbill with violet flowers. If it's happy, it can get to be 4 feet in diameter! The foliage is attractive all summer and the blooms that start in June continue until September.

Named for the constellation, this geranium will be the star of your garden. Large bright blue flowers with purple veins and light centers bloom from mid summer into fall. It will make a lovely mound of foliage and color -- perfect to pair with spring-blooming bulbs.

Nearly true blue flowers above a dense mound of very dark purple, lacy leaves. When grown in the shade, leaves are more dark green with purple highlights. Deer and rabbits will not bother with these.

This pretty geranium hails from the famous Blooms of Bressingham, England. Large, violet-blue flowers have a lavender eye and bloom for an exceptionally long time. Foliage is deep green. One plant can grow up to 3 feet in a season.

Gillenia trifoliata

This Eastern US native grows well in dry, shady sites, especially when planted in mass. Profuse, 1", star-shaped, white flowers (some may be brushed with pink) on wiry, red branches from late May through June. Will tolerate full sun if the soil is moist.
