Sedum 'Abbeydore'

A new sedum with blue-green foliage on a compact, upright plant. The intense pinkish-red flowers bloom in late summer, bursting from light pink buds and aging to bright red seedpods (think "winter interest").

Sedum album 'Coral Carpet'

A low, spreading sedum that quickly forms a dense mat of fleshy, bright green leaves often tinged with salmon pink. Starry-white flowers appear in early summer.

Sedum 'Autumn Joy' (Herbstfreude)

A classic! Every garden must have one. Gray-green leaves with rose-colored flowers in August that fade to brick red in October. Will provide winter interest if you leave the dried flower heads.

This sedum forms a clump of large blue-green foliage with wavy margins. In late summer the cream colored buds give way to soft pink flowers. The seed heads of this perennial retain interest in the winter as well as provide food for birds. Old growth should be cut back in the spring.

We propagated this sedum from our display gardens where it has been growing for 15 years. Light green leaves hug the ground. In June and July it blooms with sunny yellow starry flowers.

A compact sport of 'Matrona' with large, blue-green leaves on bright purple stems. The large (5-7"!), light pink, late summer blossoms emerge from red buds. Bunnies won't nibble on these so you'll have some standing through the winter snows.

This introduction from Germany has very sturdy, shiny-red stems that are lined with blue-green leaves. Broad flower heads of pale pink appear in late summer, and eventually they become chestnut-brown in winter. Prefers dry soil.

Dark blue-purple foliage with a semi-upright habit. Deep purple buds open to pink-red flowers in late summer and then turn burgundy in the fall.

This sedum has a similar appearance to oter tall flowering sedums without all the flop. 'Hot Stuff' is a tight compact mound of green foliage with pinkish-purple flowers in late summer. Great for the front of your perennial border.

Broad blue-green leaves with white edges are considered an improvement over 'Frosty Morn'. The white buds open in late summer to vibrant pink flowers. Provides winter interest. Rabbits don't like 'em.

A creeping perennial forming dense mats of bronze-red foliage all summer long. Rosy-red flowers bloom above the foliage in late summer.

This hybrid has deep purple leaves and dusty pink flowers. Looks great with sedum 'Rosy Glow'.

Sedum 'Xenox'

The smallish, scalloped leaves on this compact cultivar emerge mauve and green and mature to a dark burgundy in mid summer. 2-3" wide clusters of velvet red buds open to reveal rosy flowers in late summer.

A wonderful addition to your rock garden, this groundcover has rosettes of sharply pointed silvery green leaves that are flushed reddish-purple at the base. This color may vary from season to season.

This plant is native to eastern portions of the U.S. The finely textured foliage on sparsely branched woody stems make this an airy plant for the perennial or shrub border. Clusters of light yellow to orange pea-like flowers appear in July and August.

A native to the northwest U.S., this plant has 2-inch wide carmine-rose flowers with white centers that are arranged on the stalk like miniature hollyhocks. Blooms from mid to late summer.

The common name for this plant reveals its value in your garden for birds and butterflies. The leaves form a cup around the stem that holds rain water and dew. In addition, it produces sunny yellow flowers from July to September. The goldfinches will also love the seeds in the fall. This native readily self-seeds to provide your very own bird haven.

Solidago rugosa 'Fireworks'

People laugh at us for selling Goldenrod, but there are many cultivars and some of them are just so beautiful. This one comes from the North Carolina Botanical Garden. Its lacy bloom spikes of sparkling golden-yellow brighten your garden from mid-September into October. The attractive green foliage has a hint of purple in the summer.

The blazing yellow flower spikes on red stems make quite a show in your late summer garden. This prairie native prefers well drained soil and full sun to perform its best. The blooms attract butterflies, birds and flower arrangers!

This plant is a cross between an aster and golden rod. It offers clouds of tiny light yellow flowers from July to September. Fabulous cut flower! Beautiful en masse.

Upright blooms appear in August above a striking, steel-blue clump of foliage. Use as a specimen, or for naturalizing.

An elegant fountain of emerald green in the summer turns golden in the fall. The showy seedheads have a fragrance (!) described as a combination of popcorn and cilantro, and are very popular with the birds. The Plains Indians used to grind the seeds to make a tasty and nutritious flour.

Grown for its velvety soft silver foliage, the leaves are much larger than Stachys 'Silver Carpet' and flowers are minimal. The perfect groundcover for a sunny, dry spot.

This plant is quite different from its cousin, Lamb's Ear. It forms large clumps of textured green leaves and sends up showy flower spikes of lavender-rose in early to mid summer.

Large, 3" flowers are an intense purple and bloom from mid summer into fall, especially when deadheaded. Would look great with 'Stella d'Oro' daylilies at the front of the border.

This native may be in abundance in some people's yards. For those who are lacking, plant one and enjoy their yellow, poppy-like flowers that dance in the spring breeze. Plants are bushy. Leaves are deeply and irregularly lobed. Prefers a damp woods, moist leafy soil.

Exceptionally large, deep scarlet daisy flowers over lacy foliage. Attracts butterflies and makes a great cut flower.

Compact, shiny, dark green foliage with spikes of bright pink flowers. This is one of Charlie Proutt's favorite plants. Prefers well-drained soil. Blooms most of the summer, especially if deadheaded.

The delicate silver green foliage and airy mauve flowers make this a great "see-through" plant for the middle of your border. Preferring some shade and moist soil, it will provide some textural contrast in your hosta garden.

A delicate perennial with misty double lavender plumes in June and July. Prefers rich, organic soil.

Light lavender blossoms throughout most of the summer. Small green leaves are tinged purple. Very sweet! A slowly spreading groundcover.

When planted in groups of at least 3, this plant is a show stopper. Its stems have dusky green leaves topped with airy sprays of lavender flowers. When ours blooms in mid to late summer EVERYONE wants them!
