Drawing from the “Spirit of Place”
Artists, like gardeners, are drawn to the unique spirit that radiates from specific locations that inspire them. The distinct geography, architecture, history and plant life of any place combine to create an unmistakable sense, or feeling, that distinguishes one place from the next.
Join us as we explore Horsford’s unmistakable “spirit of place” through the lens of an artist. We will use the fundamentals of drawing and our imagination as tools to capture what speaks to us from the cherished Horsford Nursery grounds. Using both quick conceptual sketches and more detailed drawings, we will look at the importance of composition, values, and focal point as a means to strengthen our visual expression. Expect lots of overlap between the artistic realms of gardens and art.
Some materials for drawing (charcoal, pencils, ink) will be available for use and experimentation, but please bring any preferred artistic mediums, your paper of choice, a ruler, a stiff board for drawing on, and a portable seat (or easel) to your comfort level. Please bring a bagged lunch, though several local options for food are nearby.
